Mohammed Babangida, in his blog tagged “Music of Africa and beyond” speaks of the influence of African music and its impact on the world.
Taking references of the American Civil War and how it influenced the arrival of African music, he points out that the songs unleashed a feeling of freedom in people, after the war. The contents were based on all aspects of life including physical needs. The most common attribute was however loneliness, thus marking the arrival of 'the Blues'.
According to Mohammed Babangida, Blues Music originated from the spiritual chants, work songs and ballads of the African-American community in the USA. He says that this form of music has been the foundation of different music forms from jazz, rhythm and blues, heavy metal, rock and hip-hop.
