Most of us might not be familiar with the name “Amos Tamam”. This is another story of innovation and hard work paying off for an individual. An electrical engineer from Tel Aviv in Israel, Amos arrived in the US in the early 80’s. Here, he had to start afresh and so began servicing taxicabs in a fleet garage in New York City.
Through creativity, touch of genuineness and ability to develop products and processes, Mr. Amos Tamam rose from servicing taxicabs and repairing taxis to be the CEO of Verifone Transportation Systems, Inc, a division of Verifone Corporation.
The most influential contribution of Amos Tamam to the fleet and fuel management system was to introduce wireless payment for taxicabs. He spearheaded the development team for introducing the first credit card taxi meter and also for the development and distribution of Taxitronics (TX36). Taxitronics is considered to be the most advanced taximeter in the world.
People like Amos Tamam have indeed shown that it takes just a person to change our lives for the better.
